Shitty First Drafts, a Lit Journal Worth Reading, & Your New Favorite Bookstore
or, Three Recommendations for the Next Few Weeks
Welcome to Fourth Wall, your guide to literary culture in San Diego that doesn’t suck.
Here are Three Things™:
1. Anne Lamott at PLNU on Monday, April 15
If you’ve ever taken a Creative Writing course, you were probably exposed to Lamott—either actively, through reading Bird by Bird, or passively, through your teacher’s repeated reminder that your drafts are shitty. Lamott will be at Point Loma for a rescheduled event in their Writer’s Symposium. —KK

2. Last Syllable’s Second Issue
We’ve all got issues. Last Syllable Lit ain’t no different. Their second issue just dropped and it’s beautifully designed with poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and even an open genre category (song lyrics! comics!). Contributors are paid and immortalized. It’s good vibes all around, just like this photo of Allen Ginsberg. —EM

3. Libelula Books
Speaking of good vibes, check out Libelula Books in Barrio Logan. Jesi Gutierrez and Celi Hernandez’s bookshop supports local writers, stocks small presses, and hosts events in a rad space. They’re open every day and their inventory is packed with classics new and old (I scored a Herman Hesse on my last visit). Drop in and say hi to the cats. —EM
