Hey everybody,
SMALL PRESS NITE will celebrate its 10th (!) volume at the end of this month. When I started the series two years ago I had no idea it would have such a good run, let alone cultivate some real community and build real authentic friendships. It’s been an unexpected and inspiring experience. I’m very proud of what we’ve been able to make together and I’m happy to say that it will continue even though I won’t be around to shepherd it into its next era.
If you were at the last SMALL PRESS NITE, you heard me explain that my wife and I are leaving town for an indeterminate amount of time: we’re driving to Alaska, then Montana, then ??? Will we eventually return to San Diego? Unclear!
It felt silly to end the series simply because I wouldn’t be there to host it. I always wanted it to be a community/scene/idea more than a set of people. I was happy to be its primary steward for a few years, and I’m even happier now to see what some other folks do with it.
I’m handing off hosting duties to my buddy
. Administrative tasks, including the upkeep of this newsletter, will be handled by the great . They’ve already got some killer lineups in the works. I’ve also made them pinky-swear that they will continue providing free alcohol. So, the next SMALL PRESS NITE will be a nice little handoff. KKUURRTT will be hosting and I’ll be reading, celebrating the release of my second novel FREELANCE alongside three incredible writers. We’ll probably all get misty-eyed and stay out too late. I hope you can join.
xoxo,
Kevin
Oh, also: I’m going to be in conversation with Mac Crane on May 13 at Book Catapult. We’re talking about their new novel A SHARP ENDLESS NEED, the brilliance of Allen Iverson, and the tyranny of Goodreads. Hope to see you there.
