The New Adam Gnade, a Macro-sized Book Fair, and (Yes) We Once Again Plug Our Own Thing
Or, Three Recommendations for the Next Few Weeks
Welcome to Fourth Wall, your guide to literary culture in San Diego that doesn’t suck.
Here are Three Things™:
Your Friends Will Carry You Home book launch on Friday, October 18
I don’t know how Adam Gnade is able to crank out so much work. The guy has something like 10 books and just keeps going. I’m excited to hear from his latest, the forthcoming Your Friends Will Carry You Home, at Verbatim on Friday, October 18. The openers are just as exciting: there’s Cora Lee, whose San Diego travel writing is my favorite part of Burn All Books’s monthly Mail Mag, as well as Les Tirs, the noise project of Matty Terrones and Small Press Nite vol. 2 alum Nick Bernal.

North Park Book Fair on Saturday, October 26
Verbatim hosted the North Park Mini Book Fair at the start of summer, but now they’re bringing back the real deal. There will be food and drink, author readings, kids-centric activities, and, of course, tons of independent booksellers lining North Park Way. You probably don’t need more books to stack up in your cluttered apartment (meekly hangs head in shame), but, damn, look at the cover of that Brautigan!

SMALL PRESS NITE vol. 7 on Saturday, November 16
This won’t be the last you hear about this, but we wanted to put it out there now so you can clear your calendars. D.T. Robbins, who read from his then-new story collection BIRDS AREN’T REAL at vol. 1, will read from his now-new novel LEASING. Joining him will be Jac Jemc (Guggenheim GOAT!), Lexi Kent-Monning (vol. 3 alum who recently said this is her favorite reading series in the country), and Manuel Paul Lopez (who read a poem about being a muppet at a peel reading that I still think about ~daily). It’s going to be a good time.

Hey, thanks for the shout out about the new one. Really happy to be headed home for the big week.
